Airport Curfew Fund Program History
In October 2003, Mineta San José International Airport (SJC), with the approval of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), revised the curfew portion of its noise control program from a weight-based curfew to a noise-based curfew. The revised noise control program also included enforcement provisions where operators are fined $2,500 for every curfew intrusion. To date, the Airport Curfew Fund has collected $202,500.

On October 24, 2006, the full Airport Commission held a public special meeting to review and discuss the recommendations for use of the Curfew Fund Program collections. Members of the community were present to support their preferred alternatives.

Alternative Fuel Grant program to assist ground transportation providers at the Airport convert their gasoline vehicles to compressed natural gas.
Hire a Consultant to Facilitate the Development of a Detailed Design Guideline for the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens Master Plan. (86kb)
On November 21, 2006, the San José City Council approved a resolution to allow Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) to spend $303,000 in curfew funds to support the four programs as listed above.

FAQ's: Noise-based Curfew
Noise-Based Curfew
FAR 36 Stage II aircraft may not operate between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
FAR 36 Stage III aircraft at or below 89.0 EPNdB per FAR AC 36-1H average of takeoff/sideline/approach noise levels, or any other “grandfathered” Stage 3 Jet Aircraft can operate between the hours of 11:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
