Three
New Members Appointed to
San Jose Airport Commission
SAN JOSE --- San José, CA – Three new members
have joined the San Jose Airport Commission as a result of appointments
by the San Jose City Council in June.
Spencer Horowitz
was appointed to a full three-year term ending June 2013. George Gange
and Ian Kluft were appointed to fill two seats recently left vacant by
recent resignations, with terms ending June 2011. All are residents of
San Jose.
In addition,
the airport commission reelected Frank Sweeney to serve as chair and John
Salah as vice chair. The commission is a volunteer board consisting of
seven members appointed to three-year terms that advises the City Council
and airport staff.
"We
look forward to the contributions that our new commissioners will bring
to the airport,” said Bill Sherry, San José Director of Aviation.
“As we make the transition from comprehensive construction to operating
new facilities and increasing air service for Silicon Valley, their perspectives
from our community, aviation, and technology will be valuable.”
Spencer
Horowitz has more than 20 years of experience in international business
development and has been a senior advisor to numerous technology start-ups.
A former marketing executive with Intel, National Semiconductor and Zoran,
he also has worked in technology development at Bell Laboratories.
Horowitz
earned his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School
of Management and his bachelor’s degree in computer science from
Kean College in New Jersey, and has an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical
Engineering Technology from the College of Aeronautics at LaGuardia Airport,
New York.
George Gange
is a retired officer from the United States Navy and also a retired letter
carrier with the United States Postal Service. During his 20 years with
Navy he served in airport facility management and air traffic control.
After retiring from the Navy, he then worked for the USPS in several Bay
Area cities for over 14 years.
Ian Kluft
is a software engineer who has worked at large corporations and small
startups in Silicon Valley. He has Bachelor and Master of Science degrees
in Computer Science from California State University, Chico. While in
college, he earned his private pilot’s license, and has since upgraded
to commercial pilot. Kluft is a certified flight instructor at Reid-Hillview
Airport in San Jose. He is a native of the Bay Area and a 20-year resident
of Silicon Valley.
