Three New Members Appointed to
San Jose Airport Commission

SAN JOSE --- San José, CA – Three new members have joined the San Jose Airport Commission as a result of appointments by the San Jose City Council in June.

Spencer Horowitz was appointed to a full three-year term ending June 2013. George Gange and Ian Kluft were appointed to fill two seats recently left vacant by recent resignations, with terms ending June 2011. All are residents of San Jose.

In addition, the airport commission reelected Frank Sweeney to serve as chair and John Salah as vice chair. The commission is a volunteer board consisting of seven members appointed to three-year terms that advises the City Council and airport staff.

"We look forward to the contributions that our new commissioners will bring to the airport,” said Bill Sherry, San José Director of Aviation. “As we make the transition from comprehensive construction to operating new facilities and increasing air service for Silicon Valley, their perspectives from our community, aviation, and technology will be valuable.”

Spencer Horowitz has more than 20 years of experience in international business development and has been a senior advisor to numerous technology start-ups. A former marketing executive with Intel, National Semiconductor and Zoran, he also has worked in technology development at Bell Laboratories.

Horowitz earned his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Kean College in New Jersey, and has an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering Technology from the College of Aeronautics at LaGuardia Airport, New York.

George Gange is a retired officer from the United States Navy and also a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. During his 20 years with Navy he served in airport facility management and air traffic control. After retiring from the Navy, he then worked for the USPS in several Bay Area cities for over 14 years.

Ian Kluft is a software engineer who has worked at large corporations and small startups in Silicon Valley. He has Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from California State University, Chico. While in college, he earned his private pilot’s license, and has since upgraded to commercial pilot. Kluft is a certified flight instructor at Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose.
