Holiday Travelers Advised to be Prepared
Simple suggestions can help smooth travel
during busy holiday season

San José, CA – With many changes to roads, parking and terminals at Mineta San José
International Airport (SJC) because of recent construction and improvements, holiday travelers should to get to the airport at least 90 minutes before their flight and be prepared for TSA security measures during the busy holiday travel season.

Passengers are encouraged to visit the Airport’s website at www.flysanjose.com to learn
about the latest updates to parking, security checkpoints, roadways and terminal changes. The Christmas and New Year’s holiday period is among the busiest at SJC and airports across the country. Airport “ambassadors” will be stationed throughout the terminals during peak periods, particularly at security checkpoints, to help customers and answer their questions.

For travelers’ convenience, no roadway construction has been scheduled during peak
holiday travel periods.

Some of the recent changes include:

Terminal C short-term parking lot is smaller: To make way for construction, the
short-term lot across from Terminal C has been reduced, and this lot will be closed to
new entries altogether on Thursday, December 27.

New hourly parking lot now open by Terminal C: An interim hourly lot intended for
“meeters and greeters” has been opened just south of the Terminal C baggage claim with
about 400 spaces. Access to this new lot is from Airport Boulevard south of the terminal
at the new traffic light – follow the signs to “hourly parking.

Terminal C security checkpoints now consolidated: All Terminal C security
checkpoints have been moved to a single, more efficient central location between the
food court and baggage claim. Restaurants and retail locations are now beyond security.
Food, beverages and restrooms are also available pre-security, near baggage claim.

Plenty of short-term parking available in Terminal A garage: For short-term parking
for a day or more, use the Terminal A garage instead of the Terminal C lots. Parking
spaces are plentiful, and travelers can take the frequent Inter-terminal shuttle for the short ride to Terminal C. Or use long-term parking which is guaranteed.

Guaranteed Long-Term Parking: Everyone who uses the SJC long-term lot on the
west side of the airport over the holiday period is assured a space. At $15.00 per day
long-term parking is cheaper than the daily rate in the short-term parking areas, which is
$30.00 per day. During the holidays, passengers can save $3 per day on long-term
parking by using a 20% discount coupon available at www.flysanjose.com. The
promotion coupon is good to January 7, 2008.

New, closer cell phone waiting area: The free and convenient cell phone waiting area is
available on Airport Parkway between Technology Drive and Highway 87 just outside
the Airport. The waiting area is only about a minute or two from the terminals.

SJC and TSA Tips for Safer and Easier Holiday Travel

TSA’s “3-1-1 program” is a simple way to remember security rules now in effect at the
nation’s airports. By following these guidelines ahead of time, passengers can help make the security screening process much faster and easier for everyone.

  • 3-ounce or smaller containers of liquid or gel are permitted. More than three ounces must be packed in checked baggage.
  • 1-quart clear plastic, zip-top bags for holding 3-ounce or smaller containers.
  • 1 bag per traveler is allowed. Be sure to have it in hand at the checkpoint for inspection.

Beverages and other items purchased by passengers after the security checkpoint are
allowed on the plane. During the holiday season, passengers should bring only unwrapped gifts, as wrapped items may have to be unwrapped and inspected, causing delays. Go to www.tsa.gov for the latest security policies.

The New Airport
The airport’s comprehensive terminal area improvement program is replacing and
upgrading existing terminals and roadways over the next thirty months. When completed in mid-2010, the new airport will provide better service and greater convenience for the benefit of travelers and businesses in the South Bay.

The overall project includes the construction of a new Terminal B that will take the place
of Terminal C, originally built in 1965; upgrades and expansion of Terminal A to provide more spacious waiting areas and faster security check-in systems; a new 3350-space rental car and public parking garage directly in front of the new Terminal B; more options for food, beverage, and retail services; and improved roadways serving the airport.
